The last place we visited in Nepal was the city of Bhaktapur. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and one can easily see why. It is one of the three medieval cities in the Kathmandu Valley, and it is the one that is best preserved. These pictures do not do it justice. Walking through all these structures felt like travelling back in time. It has to be experienced first hand.

The Durbar Square in Bhaktapur is more spacious than the one in Kathmandu. This is because a lot of structures in the square were destroyed during the earthquake in 1934. You’ll see a lot of pagodas and temples in this area, mostly dedicated to Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Photographers would have a field day.

Sadly, the April 2015 earthquake destroyed most of these structures. It was painful seeing pictures of Bhaktapur in the aftermath of the earthquake. Bhaktapur is a one of a kind cultural gem, and it is a shame that future generations would no longer experience seeing the magnificence of Bhaktapur to the extent that I had.
